Piers Morgan's wife Celia Walden begs Susanna Reid to take him back on GMB

Piers Morgan's wife Celia Walden begged Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard to take her husband back on GMB on Thursday morning.

Celia appeared on the ITV show to speak about her new book 'Payday' but talk soon turned to her husband following Ofcom's decision yesterday.

Ofcom ruled that Good Morning Britain was not in breach of the broadcasting code over Piers Morgan's controversial comments about the Duchess of Sussex, which sparked more than 50,000 complaints.

A statement from Ofcom said: "This was a finely-balanced decision. Mr Morgan's comments were potentially harmful and offensive to viewers, and we recognise the strong public reaction to them.

"But we also took full account of freedom of expression. Under our rules, broadcasters can include controversial opinions as part of legitimate debate in the public interest, and the strong challenge to Mr Morgan from other contributors provided important context for viewers.

"Nonetheless, we've reminded ITV to take greater care around content discussing mental health and suicide in future. ITV might consider the use of timely warnings or signposting of support services to ensure viewers are properly protected."

Celia said Mr Morgan was "jubilant" following the decision and asked Susanna to take him back off her hands.

Celia joked that Piers could storm into the building any minute and warned bosses to have security at the ready.

Susanna said that she was in touch with Mr Morgan and was his "friend" but asked Celia what he was going to do next.

Celia said: "He's got some irons in the fire, I don't think he'll be kicking around the house for too much longer.

"It's been a challenge, we don't really argue because we're both too busy with our own things, but it's been a strange few months.

"He used to expend so much energy doing the show that he's come home and lie on the sofa."

Susanna said: "Well he's not coming back we know that."

But Celia said: "Well anytime you want him back he's available let me know."

*GMB continues at 6am on ITV tomorrow
