Piers Morgan makes savage swipe at Ant and Dec as he begs for NTA votes

Piers Morgan has openly begged fans to vote for him as Best Presenter of The Year at the National Television Awards.

The opinionated 56-year-old TV star has been nominated in the same category as Ant and Dec for his hosting duties on Good Morning Britian.

Of course, Piers famously quit the ITV morning show back in March following his controversial comments about Meghan Markle after her bombshell royal interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Nevertheless, Piers is still up for the gong, and taking to Twitter on Wednesday, the presenter made a last-ditch attempt to take down his fellow nominees Ant and Dec as he begged for votes.

The former Good Morning Britain host also urged Meghan Markle critics to vote for him in a bid to ‘ruin her year’ after Piers won the Ofcom complaint row against the Duchess of Sussex.

Following his triumph, Piers has labelled Meghan ‘Princess Pinocchio’ and in his Twitter plea, he once again hit out at Prince Harry ’s wife.

Piers penned: “One more day to vote.

“You can either fuel the world's most tediously predictable farce by helping Ant & Dec win Presenter of the Year for the 20th bloody year - or vote for me to support free speech and ruin Princess Pinocchio's year.

“Your call, Britain - don't let me down.”

Piers’ nomination has come as a surprise to some viewers after he abruptly left his presenting role on Good Morning Britain after a debate occurred with co-star Alex Beresford over Meghan’s interview with Oprah.

During the explosive interview, the duchess revealed her mental health became so bad she "didn't want to be alive any more".

She also claimed that she did not receive the help she asked for from Buckingham Palace, and that an unnamed member of the Royal Family had concerns over "how dark" her son Archie's skin might be.

The morning after the bombshell interview aired, Piers insisted he didn’t "believe a word she said" and "the fact that she's fired up this onslaught against our Royal Family I think is contemptible".

Piers’ comments led to more than 57,000 complaints lodged with the broadcasting regulatory body Ofcom.

Ofcom said restricting his views would be a "chilling restriction" on free expression but criticised his "apparent disregard" for the subject of suicide.

Piers said he was "delighted" with the ruling, which he described as "a resounding victory for free speech and a resounding defeat for Princess Pinocchios".

Following his win, Piers boldly asked if he would be offered his job back by ITV.

"As OFCOM says, to have stifled my right to express strongly held and robustly argued views would have been an 'unwarranted and chilling restriction on freedom of expression.

“In light of this decision – do I get my job back?”
