Piers Morgan's replacement Ranvir Singh admits complaints 'had to be taken seriously'

Piers Morgan's replacement Ranvir Singh addressed his exit from Good Morning Britain as she hosted the show alongside Susanna Reid on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, ITV announced that 55-year-old Piers had decided to quit his role on the breakfast programme following Ofcom receiving over 41,000 complaints regarding his comments about Meghan Markle this week.

Discussing his time on GMB with Susanna, Ranvir said: "The decision has been made, and I think when there are thousands of complaints about something, things have to be taken seriously.

"And also, of course, Buckingham Palace are taking what Meghan said very seriously.

"From our point of view, Piers is a unique individual, I’ve never met anyone like him.

"A lot of people are gutted that he’s gone. He ruffled feathers and he shook up the landscape of what we do.

"It has been a rollercoaster ride," mum-of-one Ranvir added, as Susanna looked sad and nodded alongside her.

The mum-of-three then said: "We’ve had out ups and we’ve had our downs. We have had, as you know as viewers, we have had our disagreements daily.

"There’s been times when I think we haven’t been able to disagree on anything, on and off screen."

Susanna was present on the show on Tuesday when Piers, 55, stormed off set following co-star Alex Beresford's comments to him about Meghan following her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

On Wednesday morning, it's unsure if Piers was tuning into GMB but he made sure to tweet while it was on.

The outspoken TV star shared a quote by Sir Winston Churchill and wrote alongside it: "On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.

"I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.

"Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions," Piers added.

Hours after ITV's bombshell statement, Piers took to Twitter to share a beaming photograph with his late manager John Ferriter, who he said would have approved his decision to stand down.

John had been Piers' close friend and advisor before his sudden death in 2019 at the age of 55.

Remembering his friend at the latest dramatic turning point in his TV career, Piers reflected on how John might have reacted at hearing he was leaving ITV daytime following the furore over his Meghan comments.

Piers tweeted: "Thinking of my late, great manager John Ferriter tonight. He’d have told me to do exactly the same thing.

"@GMB#TrustYourGut," added the unapologetic star.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
