Piers Morgan's replacement odds change as new favourite emerges for Good Morning Britain role

Bookies have earmarked a new favourite to take over from Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain and it's someone viewers already know very well.

It's now been a week since Piers quit the ITV daytime show, hours after he stormed off set following an on-air clash with colleague Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle.

Since his GMB departure, petitions calling for Piers to come back have gathered over 200,000 signatures but he has ruled out a return saying: "I won’t be going back, but thanks to everyone who has signed these petitions.

"Normally, people start petitions to have me fired or deported, so this is a pleasant surprise."

Last week, a poll on who viewers wanted to replace Piers on GMB saw Jeremy Clarkson come out on top with existing GMB presenter Ben Shephard, who has stood in for Piers this week, in second.

And it's Ben that bookmakers are now tipping to make the job a permanent one, with GMB's regular Thursday and Friday anchor at 6-4 with Coral to be Piers' full time replacement at the time of writing.

Just behind the Tipping Point presenter is fellow GMB star and Strictly contestant Ranvir Singh on 3-1 with fans' pick and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host Jeremy at 4-1.

"Ben Shephard is a safe pair of hands for GMB as he presents the show on a Thursday and Friday so he knows the drill pretty well," said Coral’s John Hill.

"The betting suggests he could now be handed the reins five days a week."

Some viewers branded Ben a "weak" replacement as he took the reins on GMB on Monday .One tweeted: "Susanna and Ben are weak!! Probably different questions would be asked if @piersmorgan was there!"

Another posted: "Bring back @piersmorgan to GMB. That Ben Sheppard (sic) is alright, but lets face it, he's b*****kless. Proper boring.," and, in agreement, a third commented: "I like Ben but he’s no replacement for @piersmorgan.

Other names in the betting include Richard Madeley and Jeremy Vine at 6-1, Kay Burley at 8-1, and current GMB presenter Alex Beresford at 12-1.

Alex being linked to the role comes as he reacted to speculation he wanted to 'crack America'.
