Piers Morgan's horror after 'huge fan' mistook him for 'nemesis' Jeremy Clarkson

Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson have had a fraught history - with the former horrified to learn that he could be mistaken for the latter.

Former GMB motormouth Piers and famously opinionated Jeremy had a punch up 16 years back, eventually resolving their differences with a boozy night at Piers' local in 2014.

Piers even showed up on Jeremy's rebooted version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? last year, noting the irony that the episode aired on Boxing Day.

But despite their reconciliation, one incident saw Piers confused with Jeremy during his Top Gear days.

Piers was hungover at his local cafe when "after a few minutes, a young man approached me."

"'Excuse me, sir,' he said in a Scandinavian accent, 'but it is you? The TV presenter?'" Piers recalled.

"I smiled and nodded. 'It is, yes.' He almost self-combusted with excitement.

"'I knew it! Mr Clarkson from Top Gear! It is so great to meet you, I'm a massive fan!'

"My smile disappeared faster than Boris Johnson is currently deleting his text messages."

During his WWTBAM appearance, Piers had to resort to the Ask The Host lifeline, telling Jeremy: "I can think of a million reasons why I shouldn't trust you."

He then proceeded to show off a "scar" on his forehead.

"And there's your broken finger... from when he struck me," Piers boasted.

"I'm going to say the words I never thought I'd say... I trust you. I believe you. At least this way if I'm wrong, it's your fault."

Both Piers and Jeremy have divided opinion and set it throughout their journalistic careers.

Jeremy's never shied from a controversial joke during his various presenting gigs, while Piers' most recent clashes have been over a blazing row about alleged transphobia on the part of Caitlyn Jenner.

Caitlyn, who is trans herself and running to be Governor of California, said that biological boys who are trans should not compete in girls' sport at school.

And while Piers reckons this is "bleeding obvious", other big names - including US comedian Sarah Silverman - have branded Caitlyn transphobic.

Piers has since waded in and dubbed Sarah's views "peak woke insanity."

One of Piers' other recent controversies included questioning a number of claims made by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in their chat with Oprah Winfrey.
