Piers Morgan's GMB Meghan row most complained about TV moment ever

Piers Morgan's comments about Meghan Markle on Good Morning Britain is now the most complained about TV moment ever.

Ofcom announced last Tuesday that it had launched an investigation after more than 41,000 complaints following the ITV show last Monday (March 8).

An Ofcom spokesperson said at the time: "We have launched an investigation into Monday's episode of Good Morning Britain under our harm and offence rules."

It was also revealed that the Duchess of Sussex formally complained to ITV after Piers said he "didn't believe" she had suicidal thoughts while pregnant with son Archie.

ITV's royal editor Chris Ship said: "The Duchess of Sussex formally filed a complaint to ITV. It’s thought to have been sent to the broadcaster’s CEO."

This number has now increased to 57,121 as it covers last Tuesday's show (March 9) in which Piers stormed off the set of GMB after an on-air row with weather presenter Alex Beresford who criticised him for “continuing to trash” the duchess, and called his actions "diabolical."

Piers later "lost his job" on the show after refusing to apologise for 'disbelieving' Meghan's claims and that he has become "the latest ‘victim’ of the cancel culture."

The number of Ofcom complaints now surpassed the Celebrity Big Brother racism row involving Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty in 2007, which attracted 44,500 messaged to the broadcasting watchdog.

Last year, 24,500 complaints were made in response to Diversity's Black Lives Matter performance on Britain's Got Talent.

In 2018 Ofcom received more than 25,000 complaints about an incident involving Roxanne Pallett falsely accusing her fellow housemate Ryan Thomas of 'punching' her.
