Piers Morgan’s ex-wife Marion Shalloe was left “fighting for her life” after being involved in a freak accident.
The TV presenter, 60, was married to Shalloe for 17 years from 1991 until 2008 and they have three sons together - Albert, Stanley, and Spencer.
Their son Spencer revealed Shalloe was hospitalised earlier this year, with doctors expressing “little hope” that she would survive.
“Seven months ago our mum was involved in a freak accident which left her fighting for her life…” he wrote on Instagram.
“We were told on more than one occasion that there was little hope if any but against all odds she hung on in there and thanks to the two heroic surgeons in the third pic and countless others at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital she left hospital today after 218 days on the ward.”
Spencer added: “The staff labelled her a minor miracle but they are the miracle workers. My family are eternally grateful for their incredible work. Never give up.”
He shared several photos of him and Albert with Shalloe, as well as a heartwarming video of nurses and hospital staff cheering and clapping as she walked out of the ward with the help of a crutch.
Spencer did not reveal exactly what happened in the accident.
Friends and family flooded the comments with their support, including Morgan’s former GMB co-host Susanna Reid, who posted: “The best news [love heart emoji].”
Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney commented, “Sending love and thoughts x,” while Loose Women panellist Jane Moore wrote: She’s a tough bird xx.”
Shalloe was a hospital ward nurse when she married Morgan. He married journalist Celia Walden in 2010 and they share a daughter named Elise.
Morgan previously called his divorce from Shalloe “horrendous”.
"I've only recently got divorced. There has to be a decent period before these things are done. The divorce was a pretty horrendous experience,” he told the Daily Mail.
"The day Marion and I got divorced, I said, 'You know what? We can both go away feeling awful about this, but let's never mention it again."

He has since revealed they have stayed “good friends” and praised their “three fantastic children”.
“I don't regret it because these things happen, but I'm pleased that we've stayed good friends, because it's important for your kids," the broadcaster said on GMB.
"I produced three fantastic children with my ex-wife. The best advice I ever got was to speak to them every day - that's when you need your ex to be very accommodating.
“I've spoken to my kids, with just a handful of exceptions, every day in the last nine years."
