Piers Morgan's eerily accurate live GMB exit prediction and Eamonn Holmes' fears

Piers Morgan's shocking Good Morning Britain exit took almost everyone by surprise - but he had already predicted the exact details.

The outspoken presenter stormed off set after clashing with weather presenter Alex Beresford over his controversial comments surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Ofcom received more than 41,000 complaints after Piers claimed he 'didn't believe' Meghan was telling the truth while discussing her 'suicidal' thoughts.

ITV then released a statement announcing Piers had left his role on GMB following discussions, with it later emerging Piers quit after refusing to apologise for the comments he made about Meghan.

Some GMB viewers may have seen Piers' remarkable departure coming if they had been paying attention to some of his stranger rants.

Piers threatened to quit GMB multiple times, mostly jokingly in a sarcastic manner, but a few years ago he accurately predicted the manner of his exit.

Piers claimed he would dramatically quit GMB live on air one day - in scenes that are eerily similar to what actually happened.

The presenter told co-host Susanna Reid that one day he would walk out during a live show then drive off into the sunset.

"I will definitely quit live on air one day, just bang gone done out the door," he said.

"Literally into the car with my trusty driver Gordon. And Gordon will say, 'Where are we going?'.

"And I'll say, 'I don’t know lets just hit the highway'."

If that wasn't strange enough, fellow ITV presenter Eamonn Holmes also made a worrying prediction about Piers which came true far sooner than he could have anticipated.

Eamonn warned us that Piers would leave GMB (PA)

Eamonn tried to warn us that Piers would not stick around on GMB for too much longer during an interview in June last year.

The former GMTV host, who has stood in for Piers when he has been absent from GMB in the past, claimed his colleague could quit at any time.

Hailing Piers as the "saviour of breakfast TV", Eamonn claimed the breakfast show was "going down the drain of vanilla blandness" until the former CNN presenter joined.

"He was the right man in the right place at the right time. And so far, so good," explained Eamonn, before revealing his fears Piers would walk away from the high-profile gig.

"But the thing about Piers, and probably why a lot of people watch him, is you don’t know how long it’ll last, you don’t know how long he will last.

"You don’t know when he’ll have had enough or whatever.”

There were signs that Piers would leave GMB for years before it actually happened, as he threatened to leave at least five times.

Some were in a jokey manner, such as when he said he would leave because Love Island winners Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies were getting a showbiz slot on his show.

However, Piers revealed he really did quit as the early starts and long hours were "killing" him during an interview in February 2018.

Shattered Piers admitted he couldn't hack the early starts and made diva demands to producers.

His threats to leave didn't backfire as Piers managed to negotiate a better contract than his female co-stars, who have to arrive nearly two hours before him.

Speaking to Radio Times, Piers said: "I actually quit in the summer. I said, ‘I’m out,’ because I couldn’t do it any more. Then we came to a new arrangement, which is great."

Piers got to arrive later than Susanna (ITV)

From then on, Piers would clock into work at 5.30am, as opposed to the previous 4am start time that female co-stars such as Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins had to arrive at.

He added: "The only reason, really, I had to go in so early was because the female stars all have to. It takes them longer because they get more attention and pressure on how they look, how their hair is and everything else.

"I’m lucky – five minutes of slap and on I go… I said, ‘Does anyone really care if I come in at 5.30 and we just have a catch-up on the phone?’"

Then in July last year, Piers admitted he could leave as negotiations were "still ongoing" as to whether he would return.

While announcing he was off for a summer break, Piers clarified that he would be back when a viewers messaged in thinking he was going for good.

Revealing he would be back in September, Piers replied: "I'm not actually leaving [at the end of this year], next year, possibly."

Piers' time on Good Morning Britain finally came to a spectacular end last week when it was announced he was leaving immediately.

A statement released by ITV read: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

The morning after his exit was announced, unrepentant Piers stood by his comments and claimed he still does not believe Meghan.

Returning to Twitter on Wednesday morning, he posted: "On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.

"I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK.

"Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions."

Speaking outside his house just hours later, Piers insisted his departure from GMB was "amicable" after talks with ITV bosses.

"I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion. If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that's entirely their right," he said.

"I don't believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.

"If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it."

This certainly won't be the last we see of Piers as he is already eying up other job opportunities - with a rumoured bidding war emerging for his signature.

He added: "I think it's fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they've cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge.

"I would call it a temporary hibernation."
