Piers Morgan's cryptic tweet shared minutes before Good Morning Britain exit announcement

Piers Morgan made a very cryptic tweet just minutes before ITV confirmed he has quit Good Morning Britain.

The controversial TV presenter has stepped down from his role on the daytime show alongside co-star Susanna Reid after Ofcom revealed they received more than 41,000 complaints over his comments about Meghan Markle.

In a statement released by ITV bosses, they confirmed Piers has made the decision to quit.

And just 10 minutes before the announcement broke, the TV star tweeted out a photo of a clock with "tick tock" written below it.

His tweet suggests he was counting down to the statement being released.

GMB viewers flocked to the comments section of his tweet and were convinced he had posted it to hint he was resigning.

One wrote: "Oh god you resigning?? An announcement @GMB in morning. Or they have made you resign! Your story to follow?" They added: "I actually hope not I know I don't always think you say or do right things but our mornings would be miserable without you shouting at someone!!"

Another person shared: "Tick tock indeed."

And a third commented: "Just announced is this what you mean?" in relation to his decision to quit.

It comes after ITV released a statement which read: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Piers is yet to speak out about his departure from the show.
