Piers Morgan reveals how long he'll be off Good Morning Britain as he prepares for summer break

Piers Morgan has revealed how just how long a break he'll be taking from Good Morning Britain as he prepares to take some time off.

Piers has been an opinion dividing figure during lockdown thanks to his take downs of Government ministers, wars of words with BBC Breakfast rival Dan Walker and live on air spats with the likes of Dizzee Rascal and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani.

He has sparked hundreds of complaints to Ofcom as angry viewers have taken their fury to the broadcasting regulator, but hasn't changed tact, which means that GMB will be a very different place when he, and regular co-host Susanna Reid, take an extended break from their presenting duties after Wednesday's show.

Their final show at the helm will see them chat to ITV colleague Kate Garraway about her husband Derek's recovery as he continues to fight for his life in hospital, close to four months on from being struck down by coronavirus.

And Piers has now let slip to viewers how long he'll be away from Good Morning Britain. Speaking at the start of Tuesday's show, he said: "We have two more days left and then you can all be glad to see the back of us.

"Not forever! We'll be back in September."

News of Piers and Susanna's summer break has reeived a mixed reaction from viewers on social media. Upset they'll be missing in action, one tweeted: "Saddened you’re both leaving GMB, hope you don’t intend to make it permanent Piers. It wouldn’t be the same without you. I know you get trolled a lot, but a lot of other people genuinely enjoy your contribution and like you."

Another posted: "I’d like to thank @piersmorgan and @susannareid100 for all their hard work during this pandemic. Hope you both enjoy your well deserved break."

However, another welcomed the news, writing: "Thankfully, Piers and Susanna are on their summer break soon."
