Piers Morgan reveals brilliant Cristiano Ronaldo text after Manchester United’s win over Arsenal

Cristiano Ronaldo had a hilarious response to Arsenal fan and TV presenter Piers Morgan after the 36-year-old's brace downed his beloved Gunners.

Emile Smith Rowe had given Mikel Arteta's side the lead against the then-managerless Manchester United but Bruno Fernandes restored parity on the stroke of half-time before Ronaldo netted twice to seal a 3-2 win at Old Trafford.

The win proved to be the first and only win for caretaker manager Michael Carrick before Ralf Rangnick replaced him as interim manager until the end of the season.

But it was the five-time Ballon d'Or winner who stole the show and had the last laugh over the 56-year-old who hasn't been shy of a quip at the Reds in the past.

“Arsenal played Manchester United and I sent Cristiano Ronaldo a desperate plea before kick-off, ‘Please don’t score against us…'", he revealed in his Daily Mail column.

“Of course, he scored twice, and United won 3-2. ‘Sorry,’ Cristiano texted back after the final whistle.

“I would have accepted the apology if it hadn’t also contained a laughing emoji.”

The defeat featured as part of Arsenal's three-match losing run against Liverpool, United and then Everton - who secured the comeback in stoppage time thanks to Demarai Gray.

However, they returned to winning ways at the weekend with a 3-0 win over Southampton, although the main talking point was the omission of captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was absent after a disciplinary procedure.

Meanwhile, United made it back-to-back wins under Rangnick thanks to Ronaldo's seventh in the Premier League after he was dragged down by Max Aarons in the penalty area.

It was his brace that sent the Reds on their way and have now gone four unbeaten since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal leaving them above Arsenal in the table.
