Piers Morgan responds to calls for him to replace Phillip Schofield - but raises one problem

Despite the likes of Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond, Rochelle Humes, Rylan Clark and Josie Gibson being among the current favourites as contenders to succeed Phillip Schofield on ITV's This Morning after it was confirmed the 61-year-old TV presenter will not be going back to the show, an outsider has thrown his hat into the ring.

It comes after calls from fans - and it could make for "a Lazarus-like comeback", according to the man himself. But Piers Morgan isn't currently among the bookies' favourites' for the highly sought-after TV job. However, his fans were vocal in their support of the veteran journalist and broadcaster to get the role. There's one problem, however - according to Piers.

A replacement will be needed to work alongside Holly Willoughby after Phillip Schofield's departure from This Morning was confirmed on Saturday, May 20. It came after weeks of rumours over what was going on behind the scenes between the popular duo amid speculation of a feud between Holly and Phillip. Reports now suggest Schofield' feels he has been left "hung out to dry" with his This Morning axe.

As speculation continues about who will replace him, Piers shared a photo of himself and Holly on Twitter and wrote: "Thanks to everyone suggesting I might replace Philip Schofield at This Morning in a Lazarus-like comeback to ITV. Unfortunately, there’s just one problem: I still don’t believe a single word Meghan Markle says!"
