Piers Morgan replaced by Ben Shephard for first GMB Monday since abrupt exit

Piers Morgan was replaced by Ben Shephard on Good Morning Britain's first Monday since his abrupt exit last week.

The 55-year-old stormed off GMB after a row with co-star Alex Beresford, who branded his views on Meghan Markle "diabolical".

Instead, Piers' former co-star Susanna Reid was joined by Ben, who she usually presents alongside on Thursdays.

Last Tuesday evening, he was called into a meeting with ITV bosses but refused to apologise for saying that he didn't believe Meghan's claims she was suicidal during her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

After the announcement of his exit, Piers tweeted that he had "trusted his gut" and this morning defiantly said that he still did not believe the Duchess of Sussex had suffered from suicidal thoughts and that "freedom of speech is a hill [he] is happy to die on".

He had previously laughed off an online petition, which had been signed by 92,000 people, to get him sacked from his position.

Mental health charity Mind, who work on ITV's Get Talking campaign, also came out against the combative host and said that they were "disappointed" by his remarks.

ITV released a statement last night regarding his departure, stating: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

However, the Mirror has since revealed that Piers is currently at the centre of a £10million bidding war between Murdoch and GB News.

Piers, on an estimated £3million a year at ITV, may front Rupert Murdoch’s upcoming “opinionated” News UK TV venture or become a star feature of his US network, Fox News.
