Piers Morgan reignites Meghan Markle row after new wedding information comes to light

Piers Morgan has reignited his row over Meghan Markle after questions were raised about her wedding with Prince Harry.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed they tied the knot in a private ceremony in their back garden three days before their public ceremony in May 2018.

Speaking to Oprah Winfrey in their controversial, tell-all interview earlier this month, Meghan said: "You know, three days before our wedding, we got married. No one knows that.

"The vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our backyard with the Archbishop of Canterbury."

However, it has since been claimed this wasn't the case with more details coming to light - with their marriage certificate being dated May 19, when the couple wed in front of millions across the world.

Stephen Borton, the former chief clerk at the Faculty Office, told The Sun that Meghan "is obviously confused and clearly misinformed".

"They did not marry three days earlier in front of the Archbishop of Canterbury," he said.

"The Special Licence I helped draw up enabled them to marry at St George’s Chapel in Windsor and what happened there on 19 May 2018 and was seen by millions around the world was the official wedding as recognised by the Church of England and the law.

"What I suspect they did was exchange some simple vows they had perhaps written themselves, and which is fashionable, and said that in front of the Archbishop or, and more likely, it was a simple rehearsal."

In a new statement, the couple have now confirmed they "privately exchanged personal vows a few days before their official/legal wedding on May 19," via their spokesperson to The Sun.

Piers tweeted a link to a story confirming the news, writing: "Do we still have to believe her?"

The presenter and journalist said he "lost his job" on Good Morning Britain after refusing to apologise for 'disbelieving' Meghan's claims she had suicidal thoughts while pregnant with son Archie.

More than 57,000 complaints were made to Ofcom about his comments and a subsequent walk-out on the ITV news programme following an on-air row with weather presenter Alex Beresford who criticised him for “continuing to trash” the duchess, and called his actions "diabolical."
