Piers Morgan recalls his 'nightmare' appearance on The Chase as GMB presenters star in celebrity special of quiz show

Piers Morgan cringed at himself on Good Morning Britain as the TV anchor recalled his "horror story" appearance on The Chase.

ITV viewers were shown a short snippet of Piers' time on the quiz show - which is set to air this Saturday - and it looks like the 54-year-old didn't do very well.

Co-host Susanna Reid couldn't contain her laughter as her fellow breakfast show presenter, who usually isn't lost for words, had trouble answering three of The Chase host Bradley Walsh's question correctly.

Piers was left covering his face in embarrassment as footage of the upcoming episode revealed his struggle in guessing the Cockney rhyming slang for an egg.

Admitting that he had "brain freeze" during his stint on the show, Piers said: "I don't think I am a stupid person."

He claims he was 'thrown' from the get-go as Bradley asked Piers: "In Cockney rhyming slang, borrow and beg refers to what breakfast food?"

Piers' challenging start lingered for the following two questions, both of which he was unable to guess correctly, including when he was asked to identify the only consonant "used in the names of the four major blood groups."

To which he replied by saying the letter "O".

In the GMB studio Piers was left red-faced at his answers, saying: "It completely threw me. When you're under those lights. I genuinely said O was a consonant."

Susanna quipped: "Do you not watch Countdown?"

Shortly after, viewers were shown a glimpse of Susanna's performance.

To Piers' annoyance she did better than him in her round and was called a "real Miss School Smarty Pants" by her miffed co-host.

Good Morning Britain will continue on Monday at 6am, with the special GMB episode of ITV's The Chase set to air on Saturday night (November 9).

After a number of seconds had passed, Piers can be seen finally responding with a "pass". Bradley then revealed that the answer was in fact "egg".
