Piers Morgan rages 'you’re behaving like a Tory' at Labour MP in tense row

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan spent a whole five minutes on Monday's show attempting to force Thangham Debbonaire MP, Shadow Housing Secretary, to condemn a 2020 tweet written by her colleague.

Catherine West had called Prime Minister Boris Johnson's opting out of the EU vaccine scheme "dumber and dumber", to which Piers took issue as the countries' vaccination scheme has been largely successful .

Piers asked: "Do you agree that when Britain opted out of the EU vaccine scheme, it was dumber and dumber?"

Ms Debbonaire replied: "Well, I think at the moment what we need to notice is it's international cooperation of scientists across the world including our old brilliant scientists -"

Piers interrupted: "Yeah I know, we are all proud of the scientists, I am asking if you agree that the decision by Boris Johnson to opt out of the EU vaccine scheme was dumber and dumber?"

Ms Debbonaire began: "I don't know what you are quoting from there -"

Piers interjected: "I am quoting from Catherine West who is your colleague, the Shadow Minister for Europe, in July, EU opts out of vaccine scheme, dumber and dumber, do you agree?

"Well that's not a particularly helpful line of discussion," said the MP.

Piers shot back: "Sorry, with respect, it wasn't a helpful thing to tweet, it turned out the only dumb person was the one who wrote the tweet. It was inspired decision by the government."

"With respect, I don't think that's what people at home are discussing," said Ms Debbonaire.

Piers then confirmed Labour leader Keir Starmer had said it was not Labour policy to oppose the opting out of the EU vaccine scheme, and when Ms Debbonaire repeated that to Piers, he was not satisfied.

Ms Debbonaire said: "Let's get people vaccinated, rather than talk about what someone tweeted last summer."

"You're behaving like a Tory!" Come, on answer the question, was she wrong or not?" Piers ranted, telling Ms Debbonaire to issue an apology on behalf of Ms West.

"I want to talk about the cladding scandal which is affecting thousands of people," said Ms Debbonaire.

Finally Piers pushed Ms Debbonaire to say: "I think it was an extremely unhelpful comment."

This left her just two minutes to discuss Labour's call for a cladding taskforce to help people trapped in high risk buildings with flammable cladding, unable to afford to have it changed.
