Piers Morgan quits Good Morning Britain after Ofcom launch investigation over his remarks about Meghan

Piers Morgan has quit Good Morning Britain after Ofcom received 41,000 complaints and launched an investigation into ITV's Good Morning Britain about comments made by him over Meghan Markle's and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

ITV has just announced Piers Morgan quit his role as presenter of Good Morning Britain. A statement read: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Piers posted a video of a clock on his Twitter account with the writing 'Tick Tock'.

Following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's chat with Oprah Stateside on Sunday, Piers, a former acquaintance of Meghan's, spent Monday's GMB going on an angry tirade over the bombshell allegations.

Piers called the interview a 'two hour trashathon' and said he was sickened by it.

He said at the time: '"They basically make out our Royal family are a bunch of white supremacists by this race bombshell. They didn’t name any which one it was, they just throw it out there so it could be anybody. Well, you better say it fast"

Piers also threw doubt over Meghan's account of her mental health battle, and claims she was 'suicidal' adding: "I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report."

His views sparked reaction from mental health charity Mind who said: "We were disappointed and concerned to see Piers Morgan’s comments on not believing Meghan’s experiences about suicidal thoughts today.

“It’s vital that when people reach out for support or share their experiences of ill mental health that they are treated with dignity, respect and empathy. We are in conversations with ITV about this at the moment.".

On today's (Tuesdays) GMB, following the broadcast on STV, Piers stormed angrily off set after weatherman Alex Beresford condemned him for 'trashing' Meghan.

After Alex said Piers' treatment of the pregnant Duchess was 'diabolical,' Piers said: "OK, I'm done with this," and walked off camera.

ITV said of the mental health statement: "ITV is committed to mental health and wellbeing and working with our charity partners on Britain Get Talking, which is about encouraging people to talk about their mental health.

"It is very important that if anyone has suicidal thoughts that they should always speak out and be listened to."
