Piers Morgan pledges to get coronavirus vaccine live on GMB with Matt Hancock

Piers Morgan has pledged to get the coronavirus vaccine live on Good Morning Britain next week, alongside Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

Mr Hancock appeared on the show today as it was announced that the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine had been approved for use in the UK.

The vaccine is set to be rolled out from next week to the most vulnerable people first, before being rolled out to other groups.

Mr Hancock welcomed the news and Piers said: "I'd take it live on air if I was allowed to."

And Mr Hancock said: "I'll take it with you Piers."

Piers jumped on his answer and said: "I'll come to where you are anytime next week and get it with you, I think it would be powerful.

"If we got it, if Susanna got it and Dr Hilary got it I think it would encourage people to get it."

Mr Hancock said: "We'd have to get that approved because of course there is a priority list, but if people think that's reasonable then I'm up for it."

Piers said: "If that can persuade anyone else then I'd take it, I wouldn't take it for selfish reasons, I'd take it to show people it is safe."

Susanna pointed out that Mr Hancock had already had coronavirus and asked him why he would get the vaccine.

He said: "We don't know yet if you've had covid that you're immune from getting it again, or from infecting others, so we will be vaccinating people regardless of whether they've had coronavirus or not."

Mr Hancock said the vaccine would be mostly delivered by the NHS and that a "great amount of work" had gone on behind the scenes preparing for this moment.

*GMB continues at 6am on ITV tomorrow
