Piers Morgan has been offered a permanent job on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, he has said.

Morgan, who was dropped from CNN last year, tweeted that ITV has offered him a “permanent slot” on the breakfast show but that a deal had yet to be signed.

Morgan, the former editor of the Daily Mirror, joined the programme as a guest presenter in April.

However, he was criticised by media regulator Ofcom for laughing as a guest repeatedly used the F-word live on air.

Plans for Morgan to appear as a guest presenter in July were scrapped because ITV felt there was a conflict of interest with his appearance in a National Lottery commercial.

Broadcast guidelines state that presenters of news and current affairs programmes must not also feature in advertising campaigns

“We hope to have Piers back on the Good Morning Britain sofa soon, but nothing is confirmed at this time,” said a spokesman for ITV.
