Piers Morgan makes bold admission about former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson

Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has insisted that he believes former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson would be "cancelled" if he was still in football management.

The outspoken presenter, who has also been a judge on popular TV show Britain's Got Talent in the past, made the admission in a Twitter post on Saturday morning.

Morgan, 56, has come in for hefty criticism in the last few days after questioning why athletes have celebrated winning bronze at the rearranged Olympic Games in Tokyo, admitting that he can't understand why finishing third is worthy of being celebrated as an achievement.

He said: "Real sporting champions don't celebrate coming 3rd."

As well as questioning those collecting bronze medals in Japan, Morgan has also been questioned for backing England cricketer Ben Stokes over his mental health break, while at the same time criticising American gymnast Simone Biles for pulling out of a number of Olympic events due to anxiety and mental health troubles.

Now, former United boss Ferguson has become the latest person to be drawn attention to by Morgan, with the TV presenter hinting that the Scot's managerial methods would not be accepted with the way the world is at the moment.

Taking to Twitter, Morgan, who also accompanied his words with a picture of the former United boss, said: "Sir Alex Ferguson, the greatest coach in sporting history, would be cancelled in today's sporting world - for being too mean, too ruthless, too abusive, to insensitive, too much of a 'bully'.

"This is where we've arrived in snowflake society. Congrats everyone!"

He also added two clapping emojis to the end of his post.

Ferguson - United's most successful manager in their rich and colourful history - was renowned for taking no nonsense during his decorated, trophy-laden career, often dishing out ruthless assessments of players and match officials amongst others.

Unique in every way, Ferguson's methods, of course, did United little harm, as he guided them to 38 major trophies, featuring 13 Premier League titles.
