Piers Morgan left 'eating his own words' over GMB exit as he shares book extract

Piers Morgan has been left eating his own words over his Good Morning Britain exit thanks to something he wrote in his recently released book Wake Up.

It's now been a week since outspoken host Piers decided to quit the ITV daytime show, following a clash with colleague Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle, which led to him storming off the set.

Later that day, the channel confirmed that Piers had walked and he has since poured cold water on hopes he'll return to his seat behind the GMB desk after petitions demanding his return gathered over 200,000 signatures.

He tweeted: "I won’t be going back, but thanks to everyone who has signed these petitions. Normally, people start petitions to have me fired or deported, so this is a pleasant surprise."

And now as Wake Up, which carries the tag lines 'It’s time we get back to common sense. It’s time to cancel the cancel culture. It’s time to Wake Up' - climbs back up the charts on both sides of the Atlantic in the aftermath of his departure, Piers has shared an extract from it which hasn't aged very well at all given the circumstances.

The passage, which Piers highlighted, reads: "cancel culture is not about obvious racists being given platforms.

"It's about potentially seeing your life and career turned upside down for expressing opinions that the woke brigade don't like, about anything.

"I'm lucky in that although there have been repeated attempts to 'cancel' me, including petitions to have me sacked, I've survived because I have strong minded employers who refuse to bow to the mob and I have a powerful TV, newspaper column and social media platform to fight fire with fire."

He captioned the screen shot: "This entry from my book aged like a bottle of corked Liebfraumilch"

Backing him, one of his followers posted: "Piers you can never be "cancelled" because fortunately you will always have an opinion. The great British public, quite rightly can choose whether they agree with it or when you choose your fights you fight for the down trodden, the weak, the helpless the old the underdog."

However, taking a very different stance, another responded "1. His employment contract was cancelled sooooo...

2. He was standing up for the monarchy, hardly "down trodden, weak, helpless or underdogs".

3. He's only behaving like this for money and publicity, look at the way he's flaunting his book now

4. He is shameless."
