Piers Morgan left apologising to Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid after mistake

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan issued an apology on the show on Wednesday after a mishap.

It was co-host Susanna Reid who was awarded with the rare comment, after a blunder during the live show.

As the hosts returned from the advert break, Susanna went to address viewers in the normal way.

But Piers got there first, saying: "Well, good morning..."

Susanna had barely started talking when Piers spoke over her, before realising his mistake - while his pal did manage to complete her sentence, telling viewers: "Good morning, Britain."

It was Susanna's line on the autocue, and her turn to address the viewers at home.

Piers realised he'd stolen her line, after not seeing her name - before joking he did it on purpose.

He told her: "I'm so sorry," to which she replied: "That's quite alright."

Piers added: "I saw the word Susanna and thought, 'oh, I'll just read it'."

Susanna laughed off the moment before the pair got on with the show, mocking it to be "common sense" following her clash with Edwina Currie on the show on Tuesday.

It wasn't all laughter earlier on though, when Piers clashed with Dr Hilary Jones in a heated debate over care home "neglect".

Piers grilled the show's doctor about the ongoing care home crisis during the coronavirus pandemic.

As the COVID-19 infection rate and death toll numbers continue to be released, and have soared over the past two months, one of the biggest affected sectors is care homes.

While Hilary admitted he wasn't sure why he was defending the situation, as he agreed it was a complete tragedy and something needing looking into, he did want to share "the facts" in terms of why things went the way they did.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
