Piers Morgan LEAVES Good Morning Britain as he takes a long break from programme

Piers Morgan waved goodbye to Good Morning Britain today as he takes a long break from the ITV programme.

The 54-year-old won't be on telly for the next six weeks as he and Susanna Reid enjoy their summer holiday.

It was their last time together on the show until September and went out in style by interview cricket legend Ben Stokes.

Ahead of today's show, Piers wrote on Twitter yesterday: "UPDATE: Tomorrow is our last day on @GMB until September 2.

“So @susannareid100 & I intend to make it a memorable one...and to help us, we have the brilliant @benstokes38 live in the studio for his first big TV interview since winning the World Cup.”

He added: "You won't want to miss this."

Earlier today, Piers shared a tweet joking about how much he had aged by hosting the show.

Tweeting a picture of himself looking older and sporting grey hair and wrinkles, he wrote: "I need a break."

And today, he shared another picture of his excitement at his impending holiday with himself, Susanna and Charlotte Hawkins at the GMB desk.

He tweeted: "De-mob happy... one hour until we’re outta here. ⁦@GMB⁩ (Apart from ⁦@CharlotteHawkns⁩ who will be slaving away all summer while ⁦@susannareid100⁩ and I sun ourselves... ).'

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
