Piers Morgan launches furious rant about 'female-identifying mothers'

Another day, another Piers Morgan rant about gender roles.

And today the Good Morning Britain host seemed particularly exasperated over a guest who was arguing that a man can take on the role of a mother.

The debate followed news that a London theatre had tweeted a call for 'female-identifying mothers' to become playwrights.

As expected, Piers was having none of it from the start, so broadcaster Amy Nickell, who was arguing that even men can be a mum, didn’t stand a chance with him.

She was trying to explain that despite being male, men also have the skills to be a mother.

Amy said: "I am a woman but I am also capable of the skills it takes to father a child. You’re a man but are capable of mothering a child.

"Although, nurturing, caring, is that in your capabilities?”

Piers hit back saying he’d fathered four children successfully, before losing his cool.

"Mothers are women,” he shouted. “I hate to break it to you. It's an insult to every damn woman in the country."

Journalist Sonia Poulton, who was on the opposite side of the argument, barely got a word in edgeways as Piers ranted at Amy - even getting out his phone to read out the definition of 'mother'.

He said: “Here’s the problem. A man can’t breastfeed his kids.. He can pretend to be a mother all he likes but he can’t breastfeed his children.

“There are limitations to motherhood for men.”

Amy replied by asking Piers if that meant that a woman unable to breastfeed could not be a woman, to which he said no, and all three started shouting over one another.

Susanna Reid, used to playing referee to her mouthy co-presenter, swiftly put an end to the arguement before it got out of hand.

Viewers were not happy with the chaos that ensued.

One tweeted: “Watched 5 mins of Good Morning Britain and a debate on whether you have to be a Woman to be a Mother.. Ridiculous amount of shouting. A totally pointless debate other than to rile Piers Morgan. As a famous Nan would say... ‘What a load of old s**t’.”

A second said: “Note to @ITV ... Can we please stop the shouting on #GMB in the morn...cant hear a bloody word cos all the people fighting over gender stuff are shouting over one another!! IRRITATING!!!!”

A third posted: “What the hell I just seen and heard on #GMB ? Im not sure what anyone gains from everyone just shouting over each other but the topics are just bizarre.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
