Piers Morgan laughs off calls to get him fired following savage Meghan Markle swipe

Piers Morgan has told those trying to get him fired to stop wasting their time following his latest controversial Meghan Markle rant.

His launched a blistering attack on the Duchess of Sussex on Monday, saying he didn't believe she was suicidal – and labelled her the Pinocchio Princess.

He accused Meghan of 'acting' during the interview with Oprah Winfrey which has gripped the world over the past few days.

But many feel he crossed a line on Good Morning Britain and has been slammed by mental health charity Mind for dismissing Meghan's dark thoughts after she bravely opened up.

Now there have been calls for him to be sacked by ITV for his stinking attack.

But he tweeted: "Lots of people on here want me fired for expressing my opinion on the Pinocchio Princess.

"If you want to join them, there are various petitions still doing the rounds from the last few times you've all tried, and failed, to have me fired for saying what I think."

The 39-year-old former actress, who stepped back from her duties as a senior member of the Royal family alongside her husband Prince Harry last year, revealed she didn't get the 'support' she needed from the institution.

Unimpressed Piers said he 'didn't believe' Meghan's account and appeared to suggest she hadn't had suicidal thoughts.

Responding to Meghan's claims that she had nobody to turn to, Piers said: "Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said.

" Meghan Markle? I wouldn’t believe it if she read me weather report. The fact that she’s fired up this onslaught against our Royal family I think is contemptible."

He was cut-off by his co-star Susanna Reid, who said: "That's a pathetic reaction to someone who has expressed those thoughts."

Fans flocked to twitter to take aim at the star and a leading mental health charity were equally as unimpressed.

Mind shared a statement on Twitter, which read: "We were disappointed and concerned to see Piers Morgan's comments on not believing Meghan's experiences about suicidal thoughts today.

Mental heath charity Mind hit out at the presenter (@MindCharity/Twitter)

"It's vital that when people reach out for support or share their experiences of ill mental health that they are treated with dignity, respect and empathy. We are in conversations with ITV about this at the moment."

"If you or anyone you know is feeling impacted by the discussions that have taken place today, please reach out for support using the signposts in the thread below."

Last year a petition to get Piers sacked from GMB gained over 50,000 signatures following complaints to Ofcom.
