Piers Morgan has hit back at Prime Minister Boris Johnson's costly plans to paint a plane in colours of the Union Jack.
Downing Street has revealed the makeover for the military plane, which is used by Boris Johnson and senior politicians, will cost £900,000.
Presenter and journalist Piers Morgan took to Twitter to make a scathing and sarcastic comment on the plans.
To his 7.6million followers, the 55-year-old wrote: "Great news that Boris Johnson is spending £900k of taxpayers' money to paint his official plane in Union flag colours.
"I can’t think of anything more important for the Prime Minister to be spending our cash on in these happy prosperous times."
The tweet has racked up more than 10,000 likes and over a thousand comments from people debating the plans.
Some people are supportive of the paint job, referencing "patriotic pride".
One social media user said: "Bit of Patriotic Pride mate. Nowt wrong with that!"
Another said: "This is a load of crap. The plane is going in for scheduled works and this is part of that. It’s not frivolously just for the purpose of the flag."
A third said: "It’s about flying the flag of our great Country which unlike you we are proud of, whilst he does trade deals with the rest of the world [that's] how it works!"
But others condemned the plans and claimed taxpayers' money could be better spent elsewhere.
