Piers Morgan 'itching' for Good Morning Britain return as he slams 'dumb' Covid deniers

Piers Morgan has admitted that he is "itching" to make a big comeback to Good Morning Britain as he took to Twitter to lash out at "dumb" Covid deniers and the government.

The controversial host, 55, has taken a break from giving Boris Johnson and co a tongue-lashing over the last six weeks, but is clearly eager to return in September.

Piers rushed back from his idyllic holiday in the French Riviera to avoid quarantine so that he would be able to start GMB on time.

And he was clearly practising for the upcoming month of inevitable rows as he let rip at social media users.

Piers began this evening by retweeting a poll reporting that approval of the UK government has fallen to its lowest level this year.

He tweeted: "BREAKING: Wool comes off the public’s pandemic eyes..."

A follower responded: "Piers is itching to get back to work."

To which Piers replied: "I am, yes."

The presenter went on to hit out at one Twitter user for "spreading fear and damaging mental health" over his updates on coronavirus.

He wrote: "‘Cures are improving’. What on earth are you talking about? There is no cure (yet) for Covid-19. How can anyone take these absurd ‘ positive’ accounts seriously?

"They just spew nonsensical crap like this to manipulate people’s understandable desire for good coronavirus news."

Another follower hit back, tweeting: "Pandemic my ass. Journalists such as Piers saying how there are 170k ‘Covid’ deaths in the US. Statistically that’s nothing when you have a 330m population. Why don’t they cry about the 700k heart disease and 600k cancer sees the every year in the US? Don’t be taken for mugs."

But Piers simply responded: "How can people be this dumb? Serious question."

A number of different hosts have been filling in for Piers and Susanna Reid over the summer, including Kate Garraway.

Kate returned in July for the first time in months after husband Derek was taken ill with coronavirus.
