Piers Morgan issues huge TV challenge to Boris Johnson

Piers Morgan has urged Prime Minister Boris Johnson to appear on his new TV show.

The former newspaper editor and Good Morning Britain presenter used his new column to say the PM needs to stop "being a shambles and fix things" or admit that the job is too much for him and quit.

Writing in The Sun, Morgan, referenced Mr Johnson's former career as a journalist and criticised him for the Government boycott of Good Morning Britain during the early months of the pandemic.

He wrote: "It was pathetic to watch a fellow journalist run and hide in a fridge to avoid answering my questions on Good Morning Britain, and boycott shows like GMB for months on end for fear of a tough interrogation.

"Grow a pair, man! (And you can start by being one of my first guests on my new global TV show . . . )"

In the column, Mr Morgan gave the PM credit for the furlough scheme and the "brilliant' vaccine roll-out - but lambasted him for the "disaster" of the early handling of the crisis with "deadly dithering" and "shameful failings"

Piers Morgan famously quit GMB last year after an on-air bust-up with weather presenter Alex Beresford.

He has since joined TalkTV, an forthcoming television channel from News Corp and Fox News Media, in a global deal which will see him host a new TV show airing in the UK, USA and Australia.

He will also publish two weekly columns online for the New York Post and The Sun.

All of the outlets are part of Rupert Murdoch's media empire.
