Piers Morgan issues Alistair Campbell GMB 'warning' as Blair's former spokesman lands host role

Piers Morgan has given Alistair Campbell a warning over "holding back" on Good Morning Britain after it was announced he'd landed a guest host role on the ITV show.

On Thursday it was confirmed that writer and former Prime Minister Tony Blair's spokesman Campbell will present GMB next month, alongside Susanna Reid from May 10-12.

The stint coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week, which Campbell is championing after his own mental health battles.

On his surprising new job, Campbell said: "I am flattered to be asked and delighted that my stint will coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week as Good Morning Britain has always championed good mental health.

“I am also looking forward to getting stuck into the big political and social issues at such an important and difficult time for the country, as well as brushing up my knowledge on some of the subjects that will take me out of my comfort zone."

But Piers, who quit Good Morning Britain in March after a spat with colleague Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle, has urged Campbell to air on the side of caution, given what happened to him.

Posting the announcement about the role, Piers tweeted his successor to say "I'd hold back @campbellclaret "

Alastair has been quick to shoot down comparisons between him and Piers, tweeting: "Checking the presenter chair… No, I am NOT the new @PiersMorgan.”

Reacting to Piers' post, one fan wrote: Yes for goodness sake “Don’t Be Speaking Your Mind”. You’ll be out in a flash! I think the way they treated @piersmorgan was appalling," and another tweeted: "Nobody can take your place @piersmorgan @GMB will never be the same without you, it won’t get the ratings you helped to break records with.

"Nobody will hold politicians to accounts like you. I would set my alarm to watch you and Susanna. I don’t watch it at all now, not since."

However, others took aim at Campbell, with one Twitter user writing: "If that snake in the grass gets that job I will never watch it again" and another commenting: " @GMB have reached a new low. This man should be in prison not on TV."
