Piers Morgan is slammed for 'shading' Demi Lovato as singer comes out as non-binary

Piers Morgan was trolled for appearing to make a dig at Demi Lovato as the singer come out as non-binary.

The axed Good Morning Britain presenter, 56, riled up his followers when he seemingly mocked the Sorry Not Sorry singer's big announcement on Wednesday.

Not shy of a bit of controversy, the outspoken presenter joked he was identifying as an "annoying attention-seeking celebrity" hours after Demi told fans about identifying as non-binary.

He wrote: "Some personal news: I am proud to let you know that I identify as an annoying attention-seeking celebrity. This has come after a lot of self-reflective work but it's my truth & lived experience."

His message sparked an outcry on social media over the "mocking" tone to his tweet.

Among the tweets, one read in response: "Tweets like this make it harder for people to come out. This mockingly uncharitable parody of people coming out as LGBT+ is damaging. Just because everything you do is for attention doesn’t mean it applies to everyone else."

Social media was awash with trolls turning on Piers for apparently making a joke at Demi's expense.

"Hitting at @ddlovato will not take you anywhere respect people's choices guess it you who needs attention and is seeking one we support Demi and we are their fun."

"Piers, are u okay? Are things going on? Because ur obviously not happy talking bout someone who is SO happy within themselves and u clearly aren’t... plus I don’t understand why Demi’s identity affects you THIS much? Like move on, we know u don’t like them."

"I personally don't understand the whole Demi Levato non binary announcement but thats on me and my understanding but people should be who they are and however they want to define themselves. Be what makes you happy."

The Mirror has approached Piers Morgan's representatives for further comment.
