Piers Morgan is not hosting GB News as Andrew Neil says ITV 'pay him too much'

Piers Morgan will definitely not be taking part in GB News' launch on Sunday, despite rumours he was confirmed as one of the presenters.

GB News chairman Andrew Neil confirmed on This Morning on Wednesday that former Good Morning Britain star Piers will not be appearing on the network's launch on Sunday.

However, he said discussions were still underway and claimed ITV "pay him too much", making him difficult to poach.

Andrew revealed: "The one thing that’s been great is the line-up of presenters, they’re fantastic.

"They’re Britain, they’re modern Britain," he added,

And Piers is amongst them?" asked Phillip.

"No, Piers is not amongst the launch, we’ll still discussing Piers," said Andrew.

“The problem is, I hope your bosses are watching in, this network is paying him far too much to do nothing, so he doesn’t have to make up his mind!" he added.

Andrew previously told RadioTimes : "Yes, we have had conversations, but not about breakfast.

"All my indications are that Piers doesn’t want another breakfast show. But I think if he does any more British news TV it’s more likely to be with us than with anybody else.

Andrew Neil has been appearing on the panel debates on This Morning (ITV)

“We’re in good discussions, we continue to stay in touch and he knows that we feel that he would be a great addition to the line-up."

Andrew then got emotional as he bid goodbye to Holly and Phil, having appeared on This Morning regularly in the last year.

Andrew said: "Listen, I wanted to come on today to thank you."

"Aw, well thank you! It's been wonderful having you here this year!" Holly told him.

Andrew Neil broke down in tears as he thanked Phil and Holly (ITV)

"What are you thanking us for?" Phillip asked.

Andrew responded: "For being so kind, wonderful!" and his voice cracked with emotion.

"Andrew, that's a lovely thing to say! Thank you very much, and good luck on Sunday!" said Phil.

Holly added: "Thank you, hope it goes well, thank you, you are soft sometimes!"

Confirmed as appearing on GB News are ex-BBC presenter Simon McCoy, former executive editor for The Sun, Dan Wootton, and ex-Sky broadcaster Colin Brazier.

Andrew will chair the channel and it will launch on June 13 at 8pm.

* This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
