Piers Morgan hits out at 'ungrateful' Harry Potter stars for not supporting JK Rowling

Piers Morgan has criticised the "ungrateful" Harry Potter stars who haven't supported JK Rowling for sharing her controversial views on transgender rights.

The author, 56. has been widely criticised for her views from several of the franchise's movie cast, but the presenter, also 56, has slammed them for turning their back on the person who made them "rich and famous".

Some fans have called on Rowling to be "cancelled" over her comments on the transgender and LGBTQ+ community. Indeed, she's also been missing from the promo of the Harry Potter 20th anniversary reunion following her controversial comments.

And actor Chris Rankin, who plays Percy Weasley in the films, has now also branded her views "damaging".

But Piers, who's not known for mincing his words, has shot down the star.

Taking to Twitter, the former Good Morning Britain presenter said: "Weasley by name, and nature.

"These Potter stars are such a bunch of ungrateful little twerps … more interested in pathetic virtue-signalling than supporting the right of the woman who made them all rich and famous to have an opinion most people agree with."

Rowling's comments have often been criticised by fans of the franchise and other stars including Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have all spoken publicly against her views.

Chris' comments came while speaking to the Eastern Daily Press as he said: "I do a lot of work with charities that are LGBTQ+ focused and I raise money for the Albert Kennedy Trust on a regular basis.

"A lot of my family are members of the community. It is a huge part of my life and I think, by saying that, you can probably guess where my allegiances lie in that respect."

He continued: "What is important to highlight is that, when a trans person says they are male or female, that is what they are and that is how we should treat them.

"It is damaging to them to say otherwise."

Twitter users were divided by Piers' comments with many taking to his post to let their own feelings be known on the matter.

It's the latest in a long line of comments from the outspoken presenter.

On Christmas Eve he shared a subtle dig at Meghan Markle as he praised "proper" Duchess Kate Middleton.

After Kate played the piano in a televised concert for the very first time, on ITV programme Royal Carols: Together at Christmas, Piers liked what he saw.

Taking to twitter, he uploaded a photo of the Duchess of Cambridge in action at Westminster Abbey.

He simply captioned the shot: "A proper Duchess."
