Piers Morgan hits out at Good Morning Britain as he debuts on Australia's Today show

Piers Morgan has let rip at his former workplace as he made his debut as host on Australian morning TV.

The 56-year-old was filling in for Karl Stefanovic as he hosted Channel Nine's Today show alongside co-host Allison Langdon.

Viewers had been surprised by his appearance as he had not been announced beforehand and began by reading the weather before mocking pal Stefanovic.

He said: "G'day, Australia. Let's start with the weather forecast. Contrary to everything that every Australian has ever told me about the weather in Sydney, it's raining.

"And, in fact, it's been raining every minute since I got to Australia and it's going to rain every minute for the rest of the week I'm spending in Australia.

"But the good news for Ally is that she's finally got someone next to her who is intelligent, handsome, younger, [has a] better accent and a proven track record of smashing ratings records on breakfast television.

"You know what, Ally? I like it here. This feels natural to me.

"Karl who? That's showbiz. [He] made the fatal strategic error of letting me sit in his chair. And it just immediately feels natural."

After his debut, he took to Instagram to make a dig at GMB not allowing him to express his opinions.

He wrote: "Great to be back on breakfast TV again.. even if I did have to fly 10,000 miles to find a morning show that would let me express my opinions! Thanks for having ne @karlstefanovic_ @allisonlangdon - you guys are a class act."

Piers infamously walked off GMB after a furious row with co-star Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle.

He did return to present the rest of the show, but later quit after claiming that ITV bosses demanded that he apologise for his remarks.

Recalling the events which led up to him leaving GMB, Piers admitted last year that he'd had "a bad night of broken sleep" after hosting the show on Monday 8 March.

By the time it came to host Tuesday's show, Piers said he was "tired and agitated" - and ended up storming off set when his colleague Alex "launched into a very personal attack" on him.

After much speculation, Piers announced in September last year that he had joined TalkTV as part of a global deal in the UK, USA and Australia.
