Piers Morgan hits out at Dr Hilary Jones for defending ‘clown’ Boris Johnson over lockdown rules

Piers Morgan is known for verbally taking down the guests on Good Morning Britain he does not agree with.

But today the presenter hit out at one of his own.

Piers, 55, was less than impressed when the ITV show’s resident GP, Dr Hilary Jones, attempted to defend Boris Johnson’s lack of knowledge over his own lockdown rules.

The Prime Minister recently had to apologise over confusion about the lockdown measures in north-east England.

Mr Johnson stumbled over his explanation of the ban on households mixing, saying that he “misspoke”.

Dr Hilary said: “I feel a little bit of sympathy for him in that the rules are different in Wales, Northern Ireland and in Scotland…”

But Piers had no room for sympathy and blasted the PM for getting “even more useless as the days go by”.

He blasted: “He’s the Prime Minister, Hilary. They are his rules. He says they’re easy.

“Stop defending this clown.

“He told us the rule of six is so simple, that’s why they brought it in.”

But the doc stood his ground and suggested that that minute details of some areas in the UK make it confusing for people to understand.

Piers Morgan hit out at Dr Hilary Jones for ‘defending’ Boris Johnson during GMB discussion about lockdown rules (ITV)

He said: “I am not defending him.

“I think people understand the broad policies, it's the minutiae of details in certain areas which confuses people.”

But Piers disagreed with his colleague and said he thinks that people “don’t have a clue” about the rules.

"He's just a bumbling fool and this had gone beyond a joke now,” Piers ranted of Mr Johnson.

"He doesn't even know his simple rule of six."

This comes as Boris Johnson is set to hold a Downing Street press conference this afternoon on the latest with coronavirus.

The Prime Minister will be joined by chief medical officer for England, Professor Chris Whitty, and chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, in what will be the 100th Covid-19 briefing since the pandemic hit the UK.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
