Piers Morgan hints he's leaving Good Morning Britain by the end of the year

Piers Morgan has hinted at leaving Good Morning Britain as his contract ends in December, and it has surprised the show's fans.

The controversial host could say goodbye to his spot on the panel on December 31, where he sits alongside Susanna Reid, Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins and Ben Shephard, in the coming new year.

The 54-year-old journalist, who often divides viewers of the ITV morning show, revealed he will debate his future on the show.

Last week, Piers declared he identified as a penguin as he ranted about gender, which led to a petition being started to get him fired from the show.

Although he laughed it off, Piers then took to Twitter and revealed his contract with the show actually comes to an end on the final day of 2019.

One fan questioned the star if he'd get paid for the rest of the term of his contract like a footballer if he was sacked, he penned: "Yes, but my contract runs out on Dec31 anyway.."

He then tweeted that he would be talking about his future on Good Morning Britain on Monday morning's show.

"UPDATE: On tomorrow's @GMB, we will be debating whether I should be fired."

One GMB fan asked: "Is he leaving GMB? Great I can start watching it again", while another wrote: "No debate! You're fired!"

But others actually admitted that the show isn't worth watching without Piers.

"Without you there’s no GMB," one confessed.

And in response to his Piers' tweet another said: "Never, you make breakfast tv worth watching."

It comes after he slammed the petition calling for him to be sacked from GMB after saying he identified as a penguin.

He made the claim as a reaction to a BBC film that says there are more than 100 genders.

In a tweet publicising the online petition, his view was called "dangerous and dehumanising".

In response Piers tweeted: "You can't remove me, I'm currently identifying as a penguin so it would be animal cruelty."

Piers is set to talk about his contract tomorrow morning.
