Piers Morgan hints at imminent TV return after being cleared by Ofcom

Piers Morgan has hinted he may be making an imminent return to our TV screens.

The 56-year-old presenter has largely stayed clear of the limelight since he stormed off Good Morning Britain following his comments about Meghan Markle.

His remarks that he didn't believe a word Meghan Markle said sparked over 50,000 Ofcom complaints from viewers - and the broadcasting watchdog have since been investigating the matter.

However, the regulator reached a verdict last week to state that the host did not breach any broadcasting codes - and his latest social media post has teased his return to television.

Piers Morgan shared a picture with his 1.7m Instagram followers alongside a group of delighted fans.

He said: "Great to meet my Yorkshire fan club this morning. Thanks for all the support, ladies!

"I’ll be back on TV soon, don’t worry.".

Last week Mr Morgan claimed the number of offers he had received to appear on TV "accelerated" after the Ofcom verdict was reached.

He told reporters shortly after the verdict: "I've had lots of offers and they've accelerated in the last ten hours as you can imagine."

The Ofcom verdict said: "This was a finely-balanced decision. Mr Morgan's comments were potentially harmful and offensive to viewers, and we recognise the strong public reaction to them.

"But we also took full account of freedom of expression. Under our rules, broadcasters can include controversial opinions as part of legitimate debate in the public interest, and the strong challenge to Mr Morgan from other contributors provided important context for viewers.

"Nonetheless, we've reminded ITV to take greater care around content discussing mental health and suicide in future. ITV might consider the use of timely warnings or signposting of support services to ensure viewers are properly protected."
