Piers Morgan 'heartbroken' after seeing Kate Garraway cry over husband's coronavirus battle

Piers Morgan has shared his "heartbreak" at seeing his friend and co-host Kate Garraway cry.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, took to Twitter after seeing pictures of Kate sobbing during the clap for carers on Thursday.

Kate, 53, was emotional as her husband Derek Draper is in a coma in intensive care while he battles coronavirus.

She was joined by their two children Darcey, 14, and Billy, 10, as they stood in their street banging drums to celebrate the key workers fighting on the coronavirus frontline.

Piers tweeted the pictures, saying: "This breaks my heart. Few happier, more positive people than @kategarraway.

"Or a more loyal, decent friend & colleague.

"So many families like hers going through so much unimaginable anguish in this crisis.

"Sending all my love to Kate & continuing to root for Derek."

The pictures emerged after Kate shared an emotional update about Derek's health.

Kate's husband Derek has been in hospital since late March as he battles coronavirus.

Taking to Instagram tonight, she said: "I am having to find new ways of staying strong everyday for Darcey & Billy, as I know Derek would want me to.

"It's not easy but when I think of how hard Derek is fighting & the bravery of all in the NHS it helps.

"Thanks so much for all your messages."
