Piers Morgan gloats over GMB as he reaches his 'one goal'

Piers Morgan may have left Good Morning Britain but he hasn't stopped gloating about its ratings just yet.

The 55-year-old sensationally quit his position on the ITV news show on Tuesday evening after facing backlash over comments he made about Meghan Markle.

Piers said he didn't believe the Duchess of Sussex' statement she had suicidal thoughts while a serving member of the Royal Family during her interview with Oprah.

His exit also came just hours after Piers stormed off set the GMB set when the show's weather presenter, Alex Beresford, labelled his comments as 'diabolical'.

But tweeting on Thursday morning, Piers said he had achieved his 'one goal' since joining the show five years ago.

He said: "I had one goal when I joined @GMB – beat @BBCBreakfast in the ratings. On my last day, we did it.

"That was down to the hard work & dedication of the whole team. They don’t all agree with me, some don’t even like me, but we were a team..and we won."

He added: "Thanks guys. I’ll miss you."

Piers' tweet will refer to a long-running rivalry he has had with BBC's Dan Walker as their breakfast news shows go head to head every morning.

The pair have often got into Twitter spats back and forth over their latest ratings or interview technique.

Piers' latest tweet comes after Dan had a dig at his rivals exit from GMB.

The Breakfast host tweeted on Tuesday: "Sorry to hear the news about your departure from GMB @piersmorgan

"If you’d like to come on the UK’s number 1 breakfast show to talk about it... we could make some space for you in the morning."

He later added: "Congratulations on your ratings. Ours were good too.

"In other news... I hope my boss would have dragged me off set if I’d used my platform - on national TV - to tell a pregnant woman, speaking openly about suicidal thoughts, that I didn’t believe a word she said."

Piers is facing an Ofcom investigation over his comments on Monday's GMB after more than 40,000 initially complained to the broadcasting watchdog.
