Piers Morgan fumes at the BBC for suspending commentator over ‘handbags’ comment

Piers Morgan aimed an explosive outburst at the BBC for suspending a football commentator after he used the phrases ‘handbags’ and ‘drama queen’.

Piers was left irate after the BBC suspended football pundit Steve Thompson, 65 until the end of the year for using both phrases live on air during Lincoln City’s 1-0 win over Swindon Town.

Thompson was taken off the air until the end of the year after listeners complained with the BBC releasing a statement stating ‘handbags’ did not meet its standards.

Upon reading the story in a national newspaper live on Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan took aim at the BBC stating the ‘world has gone nuts.’

The GMB presenter leapt to the defence of Steve Thompson who had previously received a written warning about his use of language in 2018.

Piers said: “He’s been suspended. Is that where we’ve got to? We can’t use the phrase handbags?

“He also called a manager and a player over a red card incident, a bit of a drama queen.”

Piers remarked with a sarcastic comment. He said: “Oh, can’t say that Steve.”

He added: “He’s been cancelled this guy for using two phrases that have been used for a hundred years without anyone being offended. Now suddenly people are offended by the word handbag and by the phrase drama queen?

“Let me tell you, you the BBC are the ones who have taken your handbags out, been a bunch of drama queens, aren't you?

“And you can’t cancel me BBC because I don’t work for you, thank god. What is the matter with you?

“Give this guy his job back. It’s all nuts, the world has gone nuts. Give the guy back his job. Or come and work at ITV, we don’t do this nonsense.”
