Piers Morgan fumes as Donald Trump unfollows him after 'bats**t' virus cure claim

Piers Morgan has revealed Donald Trump has unfollowed him after he went on a furious rant about the US president.

The GMB host took to Twitter and Instagram on Saturday morning to announce that Donald Trump no longer follows him on the social media site.

It comes after Piers first hit back at claims that Trump had muted him in recent days, branding it "fake news".

But now Piers has shared that Donald has indeed took steps to remove him from his followers list on the social media site.

The decision was made after Piers' latest article for MailOnline where he furiously slammed Trump's "bats**t" coronavirus cure theory.

Piers took aim at the US president as he said the crazy theory - to inject coronavirus patients with disinfectant and use UV light to treat the illness - "will kill people".

Telling fans the news, he wrote on Twitter: "UPDATE: President @realDonaldTrump has unfollowed me on Twitter, hours after I wrote this @DailyMail column".

Piers was an avid supporter and good friend of the president, and at one point had the chance for a sit-down interview with him in 2018.

In his column, the journalist hit out at Mr Trump, writing: "I just see a president pretending to be a medical expert and spewing theories that might have disastrous consequences."

"By far the most reckless and dangerous thing President Trump has done is use the most powerful podium on earth to air his bats**t crazy theories about how to beat the virus," he added.

Donald Trump suggested in a press briefing to use UV rays on the body or for people to inject themselves with bleach jabs after a new study proved that direct sunlight kills the coronavirus.

After experts warned the president that cleaning products can be "harmful and potentially fatal", he later said he was being "sarcastic".

On Thursday Piers swiftly hit back at "fake news" claims that Mr Trump was no longer following him on the social media platform.

One tweet read: "Trump has unfollowed @piersmorgan love it".

The GMB star decided to set the record straight, writing: "Fake news."
