Piers Morgan forced to defend GMB cast photo after backlash from 'halfwits'

Piers Morgan has been forced to defend a Good Morning Britian cast photo he shared after backlash from 'halfwits' on social media.

The presenter of the ITV show was celebrating on Thursday after a "historic" day for the news programme after Wednesday was the highest-rated in its history.

Piers, 55, went on to praise his co-stars and the GMB crew and shared a throwback snap of the full presenting line-up.

But some got confused by the "lack of social distancing" and other rules which are currently being followed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"So no social distancing going on there then - and don’t try and claim it’s a foreshortening effect, there ain’t no 2 metres between each of you lot," one complained.

Another said:"Outrageous lack of social distancing. no masks either," and a third added: "bit hypocritical to take such a picture after telling other people off for group gatherings.... ? Or am I missing something?"

A fourth even commented: "I expect the @metpoliceuk to issue fines for this..."

So Piers hit back on Twitter: "I'm not suggesting there are a lot of halfwits on Twitter but... a lot of people have screamed 'NO MASKS! NO SOCIAL DISTANCING!' about this two-year old photo."

Despite his clarification, the replies were still as divided as ever.

Piers was celebrating after he revealed that GMB hit a record high of 28 percent audience share, meaning they were up 170k viewers whereas BBC Breakfast was down 166k viewers.

He tweeted in a dig at his rivals: "We're taking them down, one viewer at a time."
