Piers Morgan gets explanation from Dr Hilary on how he mistook hay fever for Covid-19

Piers Morgan has found out how he managed to mistake particularly bad hay fever for coronavirus.

The GMB host, who has tested negative for the deadly bug, was convinced he'd contracted it after exhibiting symptoms like lethargy, a shortness of breath and a resulting cough.

Last night he appealed to Twitter followers to explain why his hay fever has been worse than ever this year - and revealing it was the reason he thought he'd had coronavirus.

He and co-host Susanna Reid sought the wisdom of GMB's Dr Hilary to help them determine hay fever from COVID.

Dr Hilary told that it has been an especially dry May, and that the lessened pollution amid lockdown meant was a factor in a higher pollen count.

Piers told: "When I thought I may have had COVID-19, or the symptoms of it, two of the symptoms I had lethargy, a cough developed from the breathelessness.

"These are all things that could be COVID, but all things that are also bad hay fever. I'm pretty convinced now that everything I've had is bad hay fever."

"The doctor who treated me said he had so many people coming in, thinking they'd got COVID-19. In fact, they've got bad hay fever."

Dr Hilary advised on how viewers can determine COVID from hay fever.

He told that red, itchy eyes - one of hay fever's most common symptoms - are very rare with coronavirus.

Meanwhile, a fever is ironically not a symptom of hay fever - but it is of COVID.

Piers has been outspoken amid the coronavirus crisis, conducting fiery interviews with government ministers, slamming people flouting lockdown rules and taking aim at moaning celebs.

None more so than Boris Johnson's chief adviser Dominic Cummings have felt his wrath after allegedly breaking lockdown rules to travel more than 250 miles across the country.

Piers renewed his attacks this morning, branding Cummings "disgusting" and saying his actions "will cost lives."

Meanwhile, he's offered kind words and messages of support to GMB colleague Kate Garraway, who's husband Derek Draper is battling coronavirus in hospital.
