British TV personality and former judge on “America’s Got Talent” Piers Morgan has quit the popular “Good Morning Britain” television show, according to several media reports, following on-air comments Tuesday about Meghan Markle.
The departure stems from comments Morgan made on the program, where he proclaimed his disbelief in what the Duchess of Sussex revealed during Sunday’s interview with Oprah Winfrey about her mental state while living as a royal in the UK. During the two-hour interview, Markle revealed things got so bad that she “didn’t want to live anymore.”
On Tuesday’s program, Morgan questioned Markle’s revelation that she reached out for help and received none. “I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report,” Morgan said.
On Wednesday, Morgan Tweeted as statement standing by the comments he made.
“On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on,” he added. “I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

On Tuesday, British broadcasting regulators were looking into his comments after more than 40,000 complaints from viewers were received by ITV, the channel that broadcasts “Good Morning Britain.”
