Piers Morgan encouraged Kate Garraway to pen memoir about Derek Draper's Covid battle

Kate Garraway revealed that Piers Morgan helped her with her new memoir at the start of her husband Derek Draper's Covid battle.

The former Good Morning Britain host, 56, suggested that Kate keep notes on her husband's ongoing battle with the deadly virus

Her book, The Power of Hope, came into fruition after Piers said to write every single thing down.

She told Iain Dale on LBC Radio on Friday: "It was actually Piers Morgan who very early on said 'you've got to write this down...

"And I didn't, really, because there didn't seem time to write things down. But he said to just write words that you'll remember because he said you won't remember some of these things."

Kate said that when Derek initially fell ill, she was keeping "huge amounts of notes" of his condition due to how busy the hospital staff were.

She explained: "I began to take lots of notes about things like oxygen levels, liver enzymes and everything, so I've got this strange sort of medical book."

The GMB host wrote all about the difficult ordeals her family and husband had to deal with in the new book.

Her interview comes after the TV star shared that her husband was found to have a rare brain inflammation when he was hospitalised.

Metro reported that scans of her husband's brain showed areas like "fluffy white clouds floating in the top part of his head" which concerned doctors who initially thought that they could be clots or bleeds on the brain.

It was explained to Kate that clots or bleeds on the brain could occur when patients are put on ECMO, a type of life support machine.

Medics went on to confirm that Derek did in fact have a small bleed on the brain, but they were also concerned that the "clouds" might signify Covid inflammation on the brain, which was present when he was first put on ECMO.

Kate wrote: "This, they told me, was a unique historical event, a one-off splurge of inflammation, and the fact that it showed up in some form on the earlier CT scans from back in April meant it happened right at the start when Derek was first on ECMO."
