Piers Morgan embroiled in heated debate over the word 'pet' on Good Morning Britain

Piers Morgan was left incensed on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain during a debate over the use of the word 'pet.'

Geordies don't worry though, Piers' rage wasn't sparked by our use of the word as a term of endearment - he was left ranting at a representative from animal cruelty charity PETA who suggested the word pet made animals sound like inanimate objects.

Answering back to PETA's senior media officer Jennifer White, the outspoken news anchor retorted: "So what are you changing the name of your organisation to?"

Jennifer laughed: "It's an acronym. We're not planning on changing it."

"It's got pet in it," Piers pointed out. "It's literally called PETA."

Jennifer continued to maintain that he was "missing the point," adding: "We don't hate the word pet, we encourage the use of another alternative word. We're suggesting the word companion."

However, Piers was having none of it, insisting he was fully "on point."

Not backing down, the ITV presenter then began to bring up the list of idioms PETA also suggested weren't used and potential alternatives.

These included "bring home the bagels" instead of "bacon" and "feed two birds with one scone" instead of "kill two birds with one stone".

Piers took particular exception to "take the flower by the thorns" instead of "take the bull by the horns," and said to Jennifer: "You can't stop laughing because you know how ridiculous it is."
