Piers Morgan embarrasses Ruth Langsford with savage Phillip Schofield barb

Piers Morgan embarrassed Ruth Langsford on Loose Women today with a savage comment about her feud with Phillip Schofield.

The Good Morning Britain star was on the panel with Susanna Reid and took the opportunity to aim a jibe at Phil.

Ruth allegedly lodged an official complaint against Phil back in April last year after he interrupted her live on air during a crossover - reports Mirror Online.

Today Piers and Susanna were asked about their Oscars coverage and Ruth probed him on who he would like to interview.

Piers, 54, said: "Tom Hanks is great - I've got a great Tom Hanks story, I was in New York a few years ago..."

Susanna interjected: "Have you got a clang?"

Piers added: "This is a really good one, because it shows what a nice guy he is. Everyone says, 'Nice guy, Tom Hanks' and you think, 'Is he? Are they really that nice?'

Piers then said: "We all know people who are supposed to be nice in the business, don't we Ruth?"

As he burst into laughter, Ruth turned red and shook her head as Janet Street Porter tried to shut it down by telling him to "get on with the story".

But he added: "I wasn't talking about Ruth."

Phil and Ruth appeared to try and rubbish claims they didn't get on during the NTAs when Phil invited Ruth to make a speech.

But viewers noticed the awkward tension between them despite their hug and Phil stepping aside to let Ruth take the mic.

After the awards ceremony Piers referenced the awkwardness on GMB, saying how the niceness between the presenters was fake.

He said: "We're one big happy family. Aren't we... Ruth? Awks."

*Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV
