Piers Morgan digs at 'savage' Celebrity Gogglebox over Eamonn Holmes drama

Piers Morgan has accused Celebrity Gogglebox of being 'savage' following its Eamonn Holmes drama last month.

The Good Morning Britain presenter made his comments as he discussed the Channel 4 series with his co-host Susanna Reid.

Susanna is swapping Piers for a new co-star as she'll appear in the much-loved programme with Judge Rinder from Friday for three weeks.

Speaking about watching "hours and hours" of TV, the 49-year-old added: "You see, the benefit of doing a live programme is you’re always in control of what you say and what goes out.

"When you do a recorded programme, it’s in the hands of the editors," to which Piers issued a reponse.

He replied: "As our friend Eamonn [Holmes] found out, that editing can be savage, the editing process as they apologised to him."

But Piers did have a compliment for the popular series adding: "It is fun to watch.

Susanna will appear in the upcoming episode (ITV)

"When they've done us it is funny to watch people who you know what they're thinking as they're watching you."

The incident Piers was referring to happened last month when This Morning star Eamonn, who is appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox with his wife and co-host Ruth Langsford, accused the show of 'atrocious' editing.

The 60-year-old said he was "hurt beyond belief" after some of his comments following an emotional episode of BBC's Ambulance, which heard a 10-year-old having to resuscitate his dad after phoning 999, were cut from the final edit.

Eamonn was heard talking about taking Ruth to the hospital when she went into labour with their son Jack in 2002.

Eamonn had an issue with the show earlier in the series (Channel 4)

But following the episode he said he also shared the heartbreak of losing his father after he suffered a heart attack at the side of a road - a tragedy which he said has "forever haunted my family".

Gogglebox then issued an apology with a spokesperson saying: "We have apologised to Eamonn over what happened in this week’s episode. We understand and respect Eamonn's feelings on such a deeply personal story.

"We have taken the decision to edit the episode for future repeats and All 4. We look forward to working with Eamonn and Ruth for the rest of the series."

Celebrity Gogglebox aird Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
