Piers Morgan demands that government stops lying in explosive rant over UK deaths

Piers Morgan demanded that the government "stops lying" in an explosive rant over that "staggering" number of UK deaths.

The 55-year-old presenter let rip as the government continue to refuse to appear on the ITV programme.

In an explosive rant on GMB today, Piers demanded: "Just tell the truth! The British public will forgive people making honest mistakes.

"They're not going to be forgiving if they believe their government has been deliberately misleading them or lying. And on testing, that's what happened.

"They claimed that something moved on a different course to everybody else because we worked out that wasn't appropriate. That's not what they're now admitting.

"Now they're admitted that we didn't have the tests. Be honest. Just say that we didn't have the tests."

This comes after GMB's senior correspondent Jonathan Swain confronted Justice Secretary Robert Buckland live on TV amid the government's 22-day boycott of the ITV programme.

Jonathan was in Westminster and stood near the Cabinet minister, who was conducting an interview with a rival network, when he decided to interject.

Following the interview, Jonathan intervened in a bid to try and persuade him to do an interview with GMB hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

The minister appeared to agree, but said that he couldn't do it at that moment and would be returning in an hour and forty minutes.

He also bizarrely said that he enjoyed watching GMB and its hosts' interviewing style.

Beforehand, Piers asked Jonathan whether there was any chance of asking him for an interview.

As the camera panned to Robert, Jonathan said: "Piers, that request has already been put in when he arrived about 10 minutes ago.

"He's with one of our competitors at the moment giving chapter and verse about how well the government are doing."

Later, Jonathan was seen walking over to the MP, who was sipping at his coffee.

"If anyone can negotiate an interview it's Jonathan Swain," Susanna quipped, before referring to his attempt at speaking to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who famously jumped into a fridge instead.

"Though he didn't get the prime minister."

Jonathan then told Piers and Susanna: "I've given them an hour and forty minutes, let's hope he comes back."

Asked what Robert Buckland had said to him, Jonathan said: "He did say he loves the presenters, he watches the show, he would love to come on the show.

"But he's actually walking off as we speak... who knows, fingers crossed."
