Piers Morgan demands Oxford students who voted to remove Queen portrait 'be imprisoned'

Piers Morgan has hit out at the Oxford students who voted to have a portrait of Queen Elizabeth removed from their common room after claiming it was a 'colonial symbol.'

The outspoken former Good Morning Britain presenter branded the graduates 'woke lunatics' who should be locked in the 'Tower of London' in a furious tweet.

Students of Magdalen College hit the headlines this week after it was reported the Middle Common Room committee had 'overwhelmingly' voted to take down the image of the reigning monarch from display and replace it with 'art by or of other influential and inspirational people'.

"This is about our communal space and making people feel welcome," one voter was reported as saying.

Reacting to the news in a typically outraged rant, Piers called those involved 'insolent wastrels.'

"FFS. These woke lunatics are beyond parody.

"Can we vote to have Monarch-ordered Tower of London imprisonment powers restored for these insolent wastrels?"

The president of the Oxford college, barrister Dinah Rose, said the students are entitled to 'free speech and political debate.'

Piers' sentiments were echoed by his GMB replacement Richard Madeley, who called the takedown a 'thick decision.'

Brandishing a £10 note, Richard said: "If you’re watching at Magdalen – you won’t be as you won’t be awake until 9-10 – but assuming that you are, would you rip this up? It’s got a picture of the Queen on it, bit of colonial culture going on there. So would you stop using cash?

"I can’t help but think that this is a wind-up, because it’s so stupid. It’s really thick."

"Have they not heard of the commonwealth? Do they not know what the commonwealth is? That the commonwealth, one of the jewels of the crown that she has resided over, is actually the exit from colonialism? Do they not get that?" he asked.

‘I thought these guys were meant to be amongst the brightest in the land. It’s Magdalen College," he despaired.
