Piers Morgan has snapped back at Sophie Turner after she criticised him for accusing a number of celebrities of faking mental health issues in a bid to get “positive publicity”.

The Good Morning Britain presenter faced a backlash after throwing his support behind Coronation Street star Beverley Callard, who said she is concerned some celebs are making mental health “fashionable”.

Morgan defended himself after stars including Game of Thrones actress Turner slammed his comments and called him a “t***”.

Morgan tweeted: “Sadly, I know a lot of well-known people (not The Rock) who’ve jumped on the ‘victimhood’ bandwagon to get positive publicity for themselves.

“They do those with genuine mental illness a great disservice.”

Turner was praised by fans for dragging Morgan on Twitter after he said he “100%” agrees with Callard, who has been open about her battle with depression.

Turner tweeted: “Or maybe they have a platform to speak out about it and help get rid of the stigma of mental illness which affects 1 in 4 people in UK per year.

“But please go ahead and shun them back into silence. T***.”

The two became embroiled in a spat after Morgan replied: “Hi Sophie, please don’t abuse me like this – it’s harmful to my mental health. Thanks.”

Turner took aim at the controversial presenter, accusing him of being unable to “understand or comprehend what it is like to have or know someone with an illness like this”.

She also slammed him for making a joke out of the disease, posting: “People who make fun of it are the minority... not you. You are loved and supported.”

Morgan fired back as he defended himself against Turner's “foul-mouthed abuse”.

“Actually, I was mocking your foul-mouthed abuse of me, whilst simultaneously trying to lecture me about mental health,” he tweeted.

“Do you think abusing people helps their mental health, Ms Turner? Maybe consider that question for your next virtue-signalling Twitter thesis on the subject?”
